Case study overview

Project 2 is to design and create an app aimed at either adults or children. I had to choose 1 of 17 Sustainable Development Goal, by the UN. When looking into at there were so many options a choices to choose from, making it a fairly difficult decision on what to go for.

Eventually I went with Goal 3, Good Health and Well-being. When looking into this goal, it had 13 different targets it wanted to achieve, this gave me even more options to look through and choosing the best one I think would suit me.

I ended up bouncing back between drug usage and sexual health. I also took into consideration my previous projects I and I never really designed anything for children which I decided to make a target of mine for this project. I eventually ended up choosing Target 3.7 sexual health, particularly education side of sexual health aimed at children of all genders, aged 7-11.

Sustainable Development Goal

Good-health and wellbeing

Target 3.7- “By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.”

Goal:

To improve the education and information based on sexual health in young people .

Why I chose this SDG:

This sustainable development goal was chosen by me as I always seemed to realise how little educated or awareness is actual spread/ accessible to children about the safety, informative changes and the okay & not okay’s of sexual health.

I thought about my child hood growing up and how little I was educated especially in schools around this topic, especially within boys and all boys schools. I had a chat with a girl I know about their childhood and how they came about, and what I was told was vastly different to what they learnt compared to what I learned.

Hence, I chose this goal to improve the education and spread awareness of sexual health/ change in both boys and girls but still hope to make boys educated a lot more than what they actually are compared to how girls are.

Following our conversations, I always seen it as a bit of a shocker that how each gender are taught differently, boys are told the bare minimum and usually learn from experience or what they see online. Whereas girls are educated in schools from a fairly early age.

This is what made me choose this SDG to help improve that and give easier access to education on sexual health, one that can help the awkwardness of parents but still be educational to any user.
