To refresh what I learned in the past couple of classes I learned about the use of typography within design and how it can be used to show emotions and expressions within the likes of posters. I also learned about the simple impact that Point, Line and Plane has on poster designs from famous artists such as Josef Muller-Brockmann.
Today out of the artists what was talked about Crouwel was one to catch my eye the most. His work was very typographic based including using a lot of grid work within his designs. I also liked how he created his own typefaces with a good load of them giving a futuristic type of feel which I could also keep in mind to incorporate into any future designs I might want to use.

I also learned about the different used of designs under the title of the Swedish art style for poster designs. I learned that this style is very typographic focused but also used fast colours aswell as keeping good breathing spaces in the work. I also liked that they could also include images but very simple shapes. An artists work that came to mind that uses a similar style was Saul Bass, the reason I thought of him was due to the minimalist style and typographic focus his movie posters have.
Design a poster of your favourite movie/ series to reflect the Swiss style of poster designs.
Stick to sans serif typefaces and focus on designs around the 1950’–60s’
Your poster should include: A main heading, A brief synopsis of the movie, A list of the director and main actors.
To begin my research I first used the website ‘Swissted’ to look at existing material in the style of Swiss poster design. I used a good couple of different posters to help influence what I would include into my poster
I also of course looked at the actual movie poster of what I was designing to see what features stand out to me that I can then use to include within my design.
Finally, I based my stand out feature on the artist Saul bass as I really liked how simple and minimalist designs are featured that still make the movie his poster is based on relatable.
