What I Learned this week (05/03/2025)

This week in class, I found it pretty informative and helpful as we discussed combining everything I created and designed all into one functional prototype. There were a lot of different aspects covered when learning how to successfully add all of my assets and content into my final design. Such as, Spacing (between letters and icons), sizes (for font and icons), colour balance and choices, appropriate layouts.

A lot of this stuff to me in my opinion was fairly self explanatory and I was already able to understand pretty well. However, that does not mean there wasn't any aspects that stood out to me in particular or personally thought could help me in the future.

I was pretty well set on my colour palette and knowing what works, what doesn't, and what is accessible friendly, so I didn't look too much into that. Instead I put more attention into sizes. Looking back on my master and apprentice exercises I struggled a bit when it came to selecting the correct sizes for not just font but mostly for icons.

Icons are pretty darn important when it comes to an app, especially a functional app at that. What I thought was pretty simple yet incredibly helpful information was to use my thumbs as frames when choosing correct sizing for icons. It would also be beneficial to not just look at my Figma prototypes on my laptop but actually take it to screen and check the sizing on my phone, as if I were actually using the app.

When it came to developing my icon sizes I first used the background circles they would have been placed on as a reference which was at a comfortable 88px all around. I went with this is my main pixel dimensions as they weren't too big, nor too small and I was able to fit the actual icon into the circle, as well as its tag comfortably also.

Due for next week

Aside from what I learned in class, the next biggest step in development was linking everything I had created over the past couple of weeks towards my app all into one (sort of) functional prototype.

I was asked to create a minimum of 3 different pages for the music app all of which should have some form of interaction between one another, preferably able to navigate through each one. The reason I was tasked with this was for next weeks critique, in my opinion wasn't fully necessary as I was always receiving feedback basically every week, but the more the better I supposed.

This is a screenshot of what I eventually finished for next week, I made sure to keep all my icons the same size of 88px throughout, same as the icons. As for the spacing for everything I mostly just about eyeballed it. Aside from this, I had a border grid around the whole phone frame with 25px in width.

One more element I decided to keep consistent was the use and appearance of my primary colour. I made it important that the blue of my colour appears on every single page but only when it is both necessary and accessible friendly.
