This week in class we discused about the next step in branding development, looking a two different elements. Colour how it is used, chosen and the effect it has on a brand. The other element we looked at was brand guidelines how they are made, what they are for and what they contain. Luckily when this was being explained I had a good start about what brand guidelines were as I had to develop a version for ‘Vault Artist Studios’ when I attended Belfast Met.
When learning about the use of colour and colour types such as RGB, CMYK, and Pantone during class, a lot of this was more of a reminder of what I learnt during semester 1. Aside from the refreshers that I was already fairly informed off, what I did find as a nice reminder is that colour choices are used to represent emotions from a brand. What I mean by this is red could be seen as, rage or yellow could be seen as fun. In this case I thought this was a pretty helpful reminder of what to keep in mind when choosing the correct colour palette for me.
This company I decided to take a closer look into provides multiple different flavours of iced tea, with each can being colour coded linked to that flavour. The company recently rebranded to make their colours have more meaning towards their target audience, with what seems to have yellow/ Orange.

When looking further into the companies brand, I found it interesting that they actually provided their brands colour palette and typeface, which was very helpful as they give the impression that the company are, friendly, fun, exciting and optimistic.
I thought about these specific elements when I compared the colours to what I learnt about during this weeks class and what their colours may convey, but in more so what I feel their colours mean when I look at them directly.

Even when looking on the companies website their primary colour is still the most prominent element within their marketing or any other visuals provided. Which in of itself is provided with photography that also helps what the company stands for and what their colour possibly means

Upon talking about the use of colour and brand guidelines, the class was set a task to look at a number of different brands that correlate with a number of different requirements into researching, these were;
1 Uses the colour personality you are considering.
2 Is aimed specifically at your target user
3 Is a direct competitor or in the financial sector
