This week in class, there were a mix of different skills and knowledge across different aspects. We started this week with giving class feedback and voting each classmate on the top 3 choices of a name for their banking apps.

The task was to place my top 5 chosen names for my bank, place them on Miro and with that each class mate had a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place vote which would be placed on their selected box.
Through this stage my top two choices were Kono and Pluto, and I was hoping for Pluto to win, my favourite. Luckily for me majority of the number one votes went for Pluto, and with this I had to explain to the tutor why I chose this name.
Similar, back to week 1, I explained that I gathered this name from the greek god of wealth and prosperity, Plutus. Which in my opinion, was a really good link to my bank, with its purpose of savings. However, I thought that the name could be too difficult to pronounce and went for the planet Pluto instead, which was named after the greek god, still having that links. Aside from that I also explained that I chose this name as it gave off two things, its linked to savings for my bank and its linked to space/ planets, a personal favourite of mine.
As a side note, a classmate of mine didn't know if I could use it or not due to the Disney character, Pluto. luckily for me, I did some research on this domain in particular and learned that the term ‘Pluto’ is free public domain(meaning anyone can use it freely but can't claim ownership), due to the planets name. However, Disney would cut away from the name and would go on to trademark the character of Pluto instead of the name.
Sadly, this portion of feedback did take a huge chunk of time during class and so not much else was learned further on. However, I did learn a lot about different names and how people came across them, and found them very interesting, it was fun.
When this subject began, a lot of it was more of a repeat or refreshing from what I had learned about during semester one. However, there have been a good portion of context that intrigued me, for example, Tone of voice and the importance of typeface choices for certain brands and conveying specific messages for a business or target audience.
Upon looking in to how other companies and banks use their tone of voice, I thought it would be best to look into 2 different companies, working under different sectors and different target audiences, one being a bank and another being fast food. These would give me a wide range of how different companies show their brand and how they communicate with their target audience.
One of the first companies I looked at for their tone of voice was McDonalds, the reason I chose this company as I had a chance at looking into a company that aims to the opposite of what most banks aim for. McDonalds Is known to be a heavily kid friendly focused company, always known to be colourful, giving off the warm happiness feeling, with their signature product literally being called, ‘Happy Meal’.
What I learned from this is McDonald’s tone of voice are, friendly, youthful, and energetic. This seems to be fairly accurate from what is displayed on tv, especially from the way they communicate and advertise, as they always have a very happy, humorous and friendly tone when viewing the marketing material.
