Designing about and for the future, realistic limitations. To help prepare us for designing products that do not exist yet. Designing for Virtual Reality or Augmented reality, with new technologies such as glasses, dashboards, maybe built in ‘hologram’ screens and other emerging technologies.
I was given two projects to work on for this semester, the first a shorter one, which is to design and create a hand full of micro-interactions. From what I gathered it seems I may create both a fancy animated button that becomes useful when clicked. For example, a button used for downloads could change into the progress bar before changing again to complete, was an example shown.
The next project later down the line was to design for the future, particularly future living designs in the next 50 years. I find this pretty interesting and do look forward in playing my hand on what I may come up with. An example we got for this project was a recently announced device created by Apple, called the Apple smart home hub.
All projects are going to be due by May 6th 2026
I feel like with these two projects, particularly the smaller one is going to be pretty fun, and really different than what we usually work with. Instead of making full dashboards and UI’s I get the opportunity to look at once specific feature within a UI and work away at making interesting designs.
Getting a start in this class was a lot of information to take in, but opens many doors for opportunity, especially for project 1, which I’m very excited to get a start on. It would help me not just create possible assets for future projects, but also help me refine and improve my skills of adding more engaging and entertaining, interactive elements to digital products.
My first class of semester 2 was a pretty interesting one, Both briefs were provided, and they were pretty straight forward to understand each brief. Aside from that, I really liked the first and shorter project, I feel like it’s going to refine my skills, as instead of creating a whole product, I get to look closer and get to work on the more detailed areas of how to make the real fundamental assets can be made more interactive.
