There was a lot to learn and understand about branding, as well as its effect in the workplace. I found it interesting how many different components make up a brand and how they all have their own place and effect towards that brand. Ranging from font type, colour choices, the logo, ton of voice, etc, many may be more prominent and important than others.
Upon completing my project under branding, I do feel I have just about a fool understanding with what makes up a brand as well as the ‘what, when, and why’s’ to the components of it. I do think the hardest part of building a brand (aside from building one) Is making it unique against its competitors. I say this, even though my brand isn't real in anyway, I took it that way, and found it difficult to design and create it in away that not only is the logo for it unique but its colours and personality as a bank app.
I do believe there are aspects of branding that are important than others, such as a logo. Logos/ word marks are the face of a companies brand especially when noticed by the audience. I found that making a logo Is difficult enough but in that I had to make it convey my brands personality, make it unique and make it compatible with other features of my brand such as my type face.
Aside from this there is just about one big thing every company wants for their brand, and that would to be iconic. The reason I believe this is during this module and looking through existing brands/ competitors, a lot of their companies aims wants to be remembered. For example, Coco Colas, brand with the red and swoosh, the red in this case being the most prominent aspect, to the point of where any form of advertising is not approved unless the red is the exact same.
This brings me to the colour part of it. I really found it both fun and interesting how colour theory works when it comes to branding. Similar to typeface, it has to be selected in a way that shows off the companies ton of voice/ moral values, as well as being accessible friendly and of course to look good. I also really liked how easy it can be sometimes to find your companies colour palette, or how hard it can be. What I mean by this is through links. I was able to quickly build a colour palette due to the name ‘Pluto’ and the planet, where I simply plucked the colours from that planet and from there on was able to use those colours that could fit best with my brand.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed the development and creation of branding through this project. I always found it fun and interesting how starting out with nothing ended in the result of a full bank brand. I think the area I had the most interest in was the development of my logo. Looking through each company's era and what was the most effective designs within those eras were so interesting to see. Eventually, making me develop my own logo in away that fits with what's trending in this day and age.
