My brief:

To design and create a functioning webpage based on the book ‘Browsing the streets of Crocodiles’ by Bruno Schultz.

I was tasked to create this website using HTML and CSS. My plan is to first create research based on other websites and similar ones. I also plan to look at any supporting images that I may find helpful and useful to implement into my website. As for any content like text has already been provided which is just a matter of slapping it into my HTML page , moving and styling them afterwards.

My project timeline will be, photographic and website layout research, sketches for how I want the webpage to look like, use Figma to further refine that, and finally putting it all into coding.

References & Research

Upon beginning my research, I had first hand to figure out what I was actually making a webpage for. In this case I discovered that it was for a book or a showcase about the book. This would start my research and base my colour palette on one of the book covers I seen. Further looking into to it I would also gain a good standing on what I want my typeface to look like for the webpage.

Following this I decided to put together a board on Figma which held a collection of all my research findings ranging from the books, colour palettes, fonts, and even other websites based around books.

I learned that the book was part of a mini series called ‘The Cinnamon shops’. which released originally in 1933 in Polish, and would eventually be translated in 1983. I would use these areas as a bases for my font choice which would be mostly held in serif. Upon going through Google fonts I decided to use a sort of serif that looked modern and ended up with the typeface ‘Crimson Text’

As for the main banner of the webpage I wanted to keep it old but also sort of kiddish considering the book was based from the perspective of a child. The font I ended up with was called ‘Chelsea Market'

Webpage sketch concept

When developing my ideation or concepts for how I envisioned what my webpage could look like, I thought about 3 different layouts I was happy about. Out of the original 3 I came across then chose one I thought was my favourite and would eventually further refine that within a Figma mock up concept.
