Project 1, to design and create a digital prototype in Figma of a music app. Must contain 3-6 screens such as home, menu, and music screen. Other screens can be designed based on what I think is suitable.
I first began creating a mind map board of anything that pops into my head when I think of a music app. Such as, what features are used within the UI, what genres there are, colours and their meanings, competitors, etc.
The reason I did this is so I can keep in mind what is required or what th bear minimum an app can be classed as a music app. This would include the use of icons, such as, Pause, play, skip, categories, etc.
In correlation to what I included within my mind map. My next step was looking into the existing apps and competitors within the music app industry. In particular, I looked at two apps I used the most, which were Spotify and amazon Music.
Upon looking into my competitor, Spotify I decided to screenshot every page that popped up as if I wanted to play a song listed in my favourites. The reason I looked at Spotify as references is mostly due to the popularity of the app. As far as I know every age group uses it, knows of it and knows how to use it well.
At first there isn't really anything special about this app compared to others in existence as everything that can be found on here can also be found in other music apps. The main difference is the layout of those features.
What I mean by this is any playlist the user creates, including their liked songs are always the first thing to appear when they open the app, making it fast and easy access to the app. Whilst they have the opportunity to displayed new/ featured songs just below for advertising, and then providing a ‘Made for you’ song list that was made based on the genre or types of songs I listen to.
I feel like this type of hierarchy within the home page alone is extremely smart and useful, simple feature for the users, making it fast and easy for users to use.
