Case study overview

The third project of this semester, is to conduct a heuristic evaluation on one of three selected websites. The purpose of this evaluation is to spot any issues within the UI or product, that may affect the user experience, the product entirely or the development for that product.

A heuristic evaluation is set up in a way to spot problems within a digital product, give that rating from a number of 1-4 (4 being the most urgent), providing context on why it’s an issue, providing suggestions on how to fix that issue, and if possible provide visual suggestions on how to fix it.

The brief for this project is to, review a selection of 3 different digital products, identify issues, report UX Principles, provide solutions and report on how content is communicated within those products.

The requirements for this project is, to provide an introduction about the product as well as it’s purpose, Identify at least 10 usability issues, write a description with evidence, provide solutions and finally, end it with a conclusion that summarises the product as a whole.

The three products I can choose from is;

My Decision

When it was time to choose which website I would provide a evaluation on, I thought it would be best to go with the Ulster University, Student portal. The reason I chose this website, is from personal experience. To me I’ve struggled the most with this website, in particular, a lot of the pages, and icons look identical to each other, despite having their own purposes.

Although the site, does technically break up each content into different sections, it’s still too much to look at, especially with it all being on one page, and thats just the home page.
